Daily Union (Monthly, Korea News Newspaper) Ju-un Journalist | Woori Bank received institutional warnings and fines of 878 million won from the Financial Supervisory Service on January 4, 2024 for allegedly using more than 100,000 customer information without consent.
Woori Bank was caught using customer information without permission five years after it was sanctioned for arbitrarily changing the confidential information of 23,000 customers in 2018.
Woori Bank received personal credit information such as the maturity date of customers' deposits and installment savings and the amount received from rival banks through open banking services opened for customer convenience between September 1, 2020 and November 19, 2021.
Since then, it has selected customers of rival banks and distributed 98,445 advertising information, including text messages, to 68,527 customers by using personal credit information without permission.
