Hanwha Has Acquired Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering In Less Than a Year

Daily Union (Monthly, Korea News Newspaper) Ju-un Journalist | A 28-year-old subcontractor worker died in an explosion while working on a grinder on an iron plate at Hanwha Ocean's former Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering site.

It is a serious disaster that occurred less than a year after Hanwha acquired Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

In the accident, a 28-year-old worker from a subcontractor who was working inside the workshop while the iron plate was flying off was injured and taken to a hospital, but sadly died at around 4:08 p.m.

The police believe they died in the second shock accident caused by the gas explosion, and they are calling company officials to find out the exact details of the accident.

The police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor are investigating the cause of the accident and whether it violates the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accident Punishment Act,

The company said it is working to identify the cause of the accident and come up with measures to prevent a recurrence.

Hanwha Ocean said in its statement, "I pray for the rest of the deceased," adding, "We will do our best to identify and correct the exact cause of the accident, and make every effort to come up with measures to prevent recurrence."

However, with this accident, more attention is being paid to how the ESG management of Hanhwa Ocean by Kim Seung-yeon should proceed.
